A Postdoc position at the Electrical and Electronic Department of Universidad de los Andes, Bogotá Colombia

A position is available for an active, autonomous and motivated postdoctoral fellow to work in an interdisciplinary research project for designing, fabricating and testing sensors for heavy metal detection in water, characterizing micro and nanomaterials and applications of energy harvesting.

The candidate will work with the PI on the goal of developing and integrating emerging technologies with new practical approaches for of lab-on- paper analytical devices using advance materials and multi physics operating principles to be be used in rural areas in Colombia guarantying the minimum negative impact to the environment. The new approached will need to be integrated to and acquisition and visualization system that will open to monitor the data once the sensors will be deploy into rural communities. The final product/sensor system will have to follow recommendations and standards by the authorities on the specific applications. field testing/calibration activities

Responsibilities:

The postdoctoral fellow is expected to develop methods and protocols and learn to utilize various techniques for the fabrication of lab-on-paper analytical devices using advance materials and hybrid materials. Help with the communication of outcomes and results in writing reports, papers, participation in conferences and meetings and preparation of research other research proposals for the continuity of the project.

 

The fellow will have an access to various state-of-the-art facilities in the University of Los Andes and other collaborative universities in the country or region. He/she will be expected to follow the strict ethical and risk assessment recommendations and policies at the university. As well as show respect to any cultural rules and process that will emerge in the field work with the communities.

DESIRED SKILL AND EXPERIENCE

  • Candidates must have a Ph.D. or M.D degree in field related to science and engineering.
  • Expertise in at least two of the following areas:Evidence of scientific record research articles in international journals, patents and previous funding.Evidence of scientific record research articles in international journals, patents and previous funding.Evidence of scientific record research articles in international journals, patents and previous funding.Evidence of scientific record research articles in international journals, patents and previous funding.
    • Sensor design and specification, signal conditioning, active filter design, and circuit simulation and analysis.
    • Fabrication and measurement at micro and nanoscales: e.g. microfluidics, microfabrication, 3D manufacturing, semiconductor device fabrication process and SEM, TEM, FIB and atomic force microscopy.
    • Integration of electronic systems for multi sensor probes including testing and calibration and sampling statistics
    • Synthesis, characterization and smart interfaces for acquisition and visualization of data
    • Data analysis, electronic-interfaces design and programming expertise to visually depict monitoring and implementation research data.
  • Evidence of scientific record research articles in international journals, patents and previous funding.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

Position: Full-time temporary employment starting August 1, 2017

The position is limited to a maximum of two years (1) with a review after the first year. Average salary for a postdoc is $6.589.927 (COP)/month and a benefit package

The cyber-physical systems security laboratory at UT Dallas is looking for a postdoctoral scholar with interests and experience on security of industrial control systems. Research will focus on detection and response to attacks on industrial control networks and SCADA systems. The position has a flexible starting date, we are looking to hire a postdoctoral scholar as soon as May 2017 (but it can start later). The end date will be August of 2018.

We are looking for candidates that will complete before the start date, a PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.  The applicant should have expertise in either (1) networking and traffic analysis, (2) software security,  or (3) control theory.

El estudiante Doctoral Fernando Pastrana sustento su tesis titulada:

"SAFETY ASSESSMENT OF NANOMATERIALS IN BIOLOGICAL SYSTEMS: MECHANICAL AND BIOCHEMICAL APPROACHES"

Asistieron a esta sustentación la profesora Tsai Candace (seniour Professor,
Occupational and Environmental Health, Colorado State University), el Dr. Alexis Vignes ( researcher from Institut National de l'Environment Industriel et des Risques (INERIS)) y el profesor  Felipe Muñoz ( profesor asociado de ingeniería química)

El estudiante presento nuevos indicadores para la evaluación de toxicidad por exposición a nano materiales resultados novedosos que permiten entender la interacción de nano materiales con estructuras de fibroblastos y presentar evidencia experimental del efecto de estos materiales en el  cytoeskeleto. Además expuso las estrategias de manejo seguro de nano materiales dentro de la universidad de los Andes y aplicativos desarrollados para el apoyo de diseño de experimentos y protección para su manipulación.

El Ministerio de Educación Nacional según resolución 19845 del 18 de Octubre de 2016, renovó por 7 años el registro calificado del programa de Ingeniería Electrónica de la Universidad de los Andes.
